WIP Wednesday

So many things on my list that I could post today. I think I'll stick with what is actually making progress. I haven't taken a picture of my Wildflower top but it is completely pieced. I still haven't decided exactly what to do for backing and borders but I have time and ideas.

The other one is a lap quilt that will be donated to a local Relay for Life survivor dinner. It is a Cape Ann jelly roll. I was inspired by a garden trellis pattern but I'm not sticking exactly with it. All the squares are complete. I need to figure out how to arrange them. I'm loving these colors.

Sunday list

I actually got a good bit done this week despite a super busy week at work.
  1. Bailey's Christmas quilt- Background fabric has arrived. Hoping to start next month. Long way from choosing backing and binding. Needs to the finished by December.
  2. Kyle's Christmas quilt.- All fabrics have arrived. Needs to be finished by December.
  3. Swoon quilt- this one's for me. Patterned fabrics cut, need to cut background from Kona White. No clue on backing and binding yet.
  4. Space aliens quilt- for a special little boy. Fabrics and pattern chosen. Need to cut and start. Needs to be finished by May. Haven't touched this one.
  5.  Wedding gift- not a quilt, fabric and pattern are sitting here staring at me. Need to get started. Needs to be finished by May. Ditto.
  6.  Finish projects for quilt/stitchery show. Quilt is good to go. Needlepoint needs to be finished and framed. Cross-stitch projects need to be finished. All stitching is done (and has been for years) but one needs to be turned into a pillow and the other framed. Must be finished before March 23rd.  DONE!
  7. Baby girl quilt-Need to decide on border, backing, and binding. Needs to be finished by June.
  8. Wildflowers quilt- Top complete!!! Need to go shopping for backing fabrics. I'm thinking a pieced back. Needs to be finished this year.
  9. Cape Ann - Piecing begun. No clue who I'm giving it to. Needs to be finished this year. Again, didn't touch.
  10. Arbor Lane BOM quilt. I started this one on our honeymoon last year (roadtrip). I am handpiecing it. I will take it on our Georgia trip this month and any other roadtrips we make. It'll get done when it's done. No road trips, no work on this one.
  11. Sewing machine cover. Fabrics picked. Hopefully getting to this soon. not a thing
  12. Ironing board cover. Mine's old and ugly. Need to chose fabrics and get started. One fabric chosen. Need to re-read tutorial and chose coordinating fabrics.
  13.  Secret project 1- I know exactly what I want to do. I'm having trouble finding appropriate fabrics.
  14. Secret project 2- Pattern picked.
All in all, a good week. I had a wonderful time at the quilt show with my MIL. I did a little shopping, not nearly as many vendors this year. That was probably good for my pocketbook. My creative energy has turned the sewing room into a bit of a mess. I am going to spend some time cleaning in there just as soon as the Lady Ags BTHOmaryland.

first quilt show complete

As I expected, I did not place with the quilt. I'll enter again next year.

However, I DID place in the cross stitch competition, a first and a second. WOOHOO!

Now to clean the sewing room and finish some more quilts.

Today's the day

I have to drop off my entries for the Georgetown Quilt and Stitchery show. I've never entered any of my work to be judged and I'm a little nervous.

First, a needlepoint worked in mixed fibers. It's a handpainted canvas that I got in NOLA at The Quarter Stitch.

When I started this, my sister had a kitchen decorated in strawberries. By the time I finished it, she lived in a different house. I never got around to giving it to her. Now that it's framed, I might.

I made this while pregnant with my son. It was framed in his room for a long time. It's been in a box for years now. I converted it to a pillow for the show.

Bug's Christmas quilt. It's been featured here before.

My challenge block.

The show is Friday and Saturday at the Georgetown Community Center in San Gabriel Park. If you are in the Austin area, come by and take a look.

WIP Wednesday

I've been happily sewing with some awesome wildflower strips I bought last month. I love them. The colors are just gorgeous.
I had considered not sharing this but I remembered that the person I am making it for has absolutely no idea that I'm making something for her. It's coming together nicely. This photo just shows them taped to my cabinets (remember my need for a design wall?) but they are actually sewn together now. I think I have the borders figured out. I need to make some decisions on backing and I have no clue what to bind it with.
Stay tuned for a more detailed post once it's complete.

  2. Kyle's Christmas quilt.- Found the inspiration fabric. Need to decide on other fabrics. Needs to be finished by December.
  3. Swoon quilt- this one's for me. Patterned fabrics cut, need to cut background from Kona White. No clue on backing and binding yet.

  7. Baby girl quilt- I think I'm going to use an old WIP and expand on it for this quilt. Got the okay to use WIP top. WOOHOO! Needs to be finished by June.
  8. Wildflowers quilt- Pattern and fabrics chosen. All pieces cut, squares starting to come together. I should go take pics.
I took it with me, even stitched a little.
  14. Secret project 2- bought fabrics, need to pick a pattern.
I also did some rearranging in the sewing room 2 weeks ago. It has made a huge difference in cutting and space utilization. Hubby helped a TON with that. I'm ordering a new chair this week and got a white board to list projects. I might get semi-organized.

Makin a break for Georgia

We decided to spend spring break with my bestest friend and her husband in Athens, GA. I'm not going to get much done this week as a result. I mean, I guess I could have packed some stuff and a machine but we have a little car.

I did bring the BOM quilt that I started last summer. It's a JoAnn precut that I got on clearance. I had the bright idea to hand piece it when we were preparing for our roadtrip honeymoon. I worked on it some on the drive here. I haven't pulled it back out.

I also brought a needlepoint that I need to have finished and framed by next Thursday.

Mostly, I am going to eat good food, drink good beer, and chill out with the one person who recharges me more than anything in the world.

Have a great break everyone.

Birdhouse in your soul

YAY!!! I finally remembered to grab this from the dryer and take pics. I really liked the way it turned out. I wasn't super sure about it the whole time I was sewing. I was worried about it being too busy or having made bad choices about which strips to match up.

Overall, I like it. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it yet. It finished a good lap quilt size.

It's quilted in straight lines because I'm still scared of patterns. I'll get over it someday.
I pieced the backing from some fabric that's been in my stash for so long that it's moved with me. A friend bought it while we were in nursing school and thought she wanted a scrub top out of it. I convinced her to let me make her one from something else.
Binding is made from the strips not used in the quilt with a few pieces of leftover pieced squares thrown in.
Oh yeah, it's March 1st. I made it through all of February, including that pesky leap day, without buying fabric. I ordered the Kona white for my Swoon quilt and a bundle that screamed BUY ME! Isn't it fabulous?
You can find it at Marmalade Fabrics.
