A productive weekend, at least in the sewing room.

It's been a busy time in my sewing room. Several tops and backs have been pieced. I guess I'm basting and quilting this week.

  1. Bailey's Christmas quilt-I did nothing on this one. I really need to make at least one block.
  2. Kyle's Christmas quilt.- Purchased backing fabric this week. Cutting soon.
  3. Swoon quilt- One block complete!!! Love it!
  4. Space aliens quilt- for a special little boy. Top AND back pieced. quilting this week?
  5.  Wedding gift- signed, sealed, delivered. Pics here
  6. Wildflowers quilt- Back pieced. quilting soon.
  7. Arbor Lane BOM quilt. I started this one on our honeymoon last year (roadtrip). I am handpiecing it. No roadtrips, no work on this one.
  8. Sewing machine cover. Fabrics picked. Hopefully getting to this soon. Why do I put off the stuff for myself?
  9. Ironing board cover. Mine's old and ugly. Need to chose fabrics and get started. Bought cording. The materials to make this are sitting here staring at me.
  10.  Secret project 1- I know exactly what I want to do. I'm having trouble finding appropriate fabrics.
  11. Secret project 2- Pattern picked. All fabrics for the top finished.
  12. Because I obviously need more projects, I found this A Case for Smiles and have to get involved. It will be a great way to use up some novelty prints lurking in my stash.
I really want to make more aprons. It was a fun, quick project that turned out so well. So, maybe a few of those along the way. I also had a productive shopping trip to JoAnn. Woohoo for sales. I'm stocked up on minky and batting. I also treated myself to a pair of Gingher scissors (they were on sale). I love them already.

Hoping to get a little more time in front of my machine today. Have a great Sunday.

not a quilt but still cool

So, I have this friend. Let's call her K. Why? Because that's the letter her name starts with and I'm lazy. She's awesome and stuff. She LOVES Day of the Dead stuff. Seriously. Truly loves. For a long time, I thought I was one of the only ones. I'm not. I'm wandering through Jo-Ann one day (what? They like me there. ) and I found this.
I made a crazy little squeal noise, snapped a shot to send to my BFF and threw it in the basket. I had no idea what I was going to make with it but I had to have it for K. Have I mentioned that she's getting married? No? She is, next month. I'm simply stupidly happy for her.

I set about deciding what I was going to make. I decided on an apron but it couldn't be just any apron. It had to be cool. I about wore out my "google button", but I found this. Free Retro Apron Pattern

It's cute and pretty simple. I put it on my To Do list and didn't touch it for weeks except to pick out the contrasting fabric. I finally got to it last week and mailed it. I have to say that I really like it and I am planning to make others.

busy weekend

We celebrated Kyle's first birthday this weekend. The time has flown by this year. I can hardly believe he's actually a year old!!!

The baby quilt was delivered this weekend so I can show it off now. This is the first quilt I've been paid to make. My sister requested it for her sister-in-law. I fell in love with it and really didn't want to give it away.
The fabric is a floral jelly roll that I picked up at JoAnn a few years ago.
I decided it needed a little something else and added denim borders.
Simple quilting with hot pink thread.
The backing and binding are very sweet, girly fabrics.

Momma got it yesterday and she loves it. YAY!

Now to the list.
  1. Bailey's Christmas quilt-I did nothing on this one. I really need to make at least one block.
  2. Kyle's Christmas quilt.- I wanted to do a random pattern with lots of solids. I finalized that part this week.

  5.  Wedding gift- DONE AND IN THE MAIL!!! I'll post pics as soon as it's delivered.

I made a few mug rugs this week too from leftover blocks from my Cape Ann quilt. They are darling. I'm shipping them off to some friends. JoAnn  is having a heck of a sale, I have a coupon for 20% off regular, sale, and clearance items, AND I have a gift card. Time to make a list.

WIP Wednesday

Starting to Swoon.

I am already in love with this pattern. I just started last night, and it's obviously going to take me a while because I have other projects that have deadlines, but I am already completely in love with this quilt.

A bad cell phone pic (and that's my new "design wall" it's hanging on. A large piece of felt attached to PVC and hanging in front of my cabinets. Gotta thank my patient, Paul, for the idea)

April 10, 2012

Two days in a row!

Finished my Cape Ann quilt that I will be donating to the Copperas Cove Relay for Life. I'm pretty happy with it.

I thought I had documented its making better but I didn't. I took a few bad cell phone pics of it but that was all other than this one.

I decide to not border it and use a darkish blue for binding.

My points don't line up and my quilting is less than straight. Oh well. I'm a work in progress.
I love this color combination. I'm glad I bought a charm pack of it as well as this jelly roll.
Pieced back. Yeah, it's crooked. I really really really hate pinning so I decided to try spray basting this time. I never could get everything straight at the same time. I'll try again because I don't want to waste what's left in the can but I'll probably go back to pinning. Ugh.
All in all, a sweet lap quilt. Now to mail it off before I decide to keep it.

It's Monday

And last week was awful. I worked way more than I wanted to and sewed a lot less. I did get the pieced back to my Cape Ann charity quilt finished. I managed to get off ON TIME today, so I quilted and bound it. It's in the washer. I'll take it outside for pictures tomorrow.

I guess I'll update my list since I did manage to get something done.

  1. Bailey's Christmas quilt-Did nothing on this. Long way from choosing backing and binding. Needs to the finished by December.
  2. Kyle's Christmas quilt.- Also nothing. Needs to be finished by December.

  8. Arbor Lane BOM quilt. I started this one on our honeymoon last year (roadtrip). I am handpiecing it. I will take it on our Georgia trip this month and any other roadtrips we make. It'll get done when it's done. I worked on cross stitch instead of this on the road.
  9. Sewing machine cover. Fabrics picked. Hopefully getting to this soon. not a thing
  10. Ironing board cover. Mine's old and ugly. All fabrics purchased. Maybe this weekend.

Hopefully this week is much better than last and I can spend more quality time with my sewing machine. Have a great week.

I had to finish the baby girl quilt on my list because the baby shower it will be given at is in just a few weeks AND I have to deliver it to the giver next weekend. I got it finished but can't show you pictures yet. I have a couple tops finished that I DO have pictures of, but first, the list.

Wildflower top (please excuse the yard, we had the worst drought last year, it's still recovering)

I have great ideas for this pieced back but we'll see what shopping brings.

Now to sort through my JoAnn coupons and make a list. Have a wonderful Sunday.
